In the Central part of Western Europe, globally-organized supply chains have been thriving for the last eight years in a high-end environment: since 2005, more than one hundred companies have established themselves at the Borchwerf II Business Area in the Netherlands. As an important gateway to EMEA region, Borchwerf II is surrounded by the maritime and intermodal terminals of the Rotterdam and Antwerp main ports. The footprint of the 275-hectare business area is spacious: approximately half of the area has been sold to companies in construction-ready sites. The other half is used for roads, landscaping, and water.

At this moment, 11 hectares of construction-ready sites are immediately available. For sales, we cooperate closely with a number of international brokers and developers. The Netherlands has a 400-year-old worldwide history of trading, and we take pride in our system of tax regulations and efficient customs service, and also in our healthy labor market. There is an active business area management system and the main European cities are located nearby. If you would like more information, please let us know.

TEREX AWP & CEVA: a solid relationship at B'werf II

14-01-2015, Door: J.J. de Bruin

For almost fifty years, Terex Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), a business segment of Terex Corporation (NYSE: TEX), has been manufacturing machines dedicated to lifting people and materials in a wide range of sectors worldwide. Used as a substitute to ladders, traditional scaffolding or cranes, and sold under the Genie® brand, Terex AWP products are a popular choice among companies, notably in the construction and industrial sectors.

“Our business is about versatility and providing our customers with high quality products adapted to work efficiently and productively whatever the job, in virtually any environment,” says Sebastian Umbreit, Terex AWP Senior Operations and Aftermarket Director for Europe, The Middle East, Asia and Russia (EMEAR). “CEVA has been providing freight management and logistics support to our European Distribution Centre in Roosendaal for the past four years. The solid relationship that we have developed together has worked well, which enables our team to focus on what we do best.”

An outstanding choice of lift and access solutions

From portable personnel work platforms, material lifts, vertical self-propelled lifts and articulated or telescoping booms, to scissors lifts, trailer mounted booms and telescopic handlers, Genie counts eight product lines. Designed to make work safe and easier, or simply to get to places that would otherwise be impossible to reach, the Genie range of aerial work platforms provides lifting capabilities from 90 kg to 1,134 kg (200 lbs to 2,500 lbs) up to heights ranging from 1 m to 55 m (4 ft to 180 ft).

Designed for multi-purpose lifting and access, whether to work on heavy outdoor tasks on uneven terrain and challenging environments, or in confined indoor jobs where reaching up into tight spaces, there is a Genie model that is purpose-built to suit the needs of virtually any application.

To this effect, Terex AWP launched the new Genie SX-180 self-propelled boom lift earlier this year to match the increasing complexity of  modern architectural, oil and gas refinery, chemical, general maintenance and port applications. “Developed with extensive feedback from our customers, the Genie SX-180 boom lift provides a record-beating 57-meter (187-ft) working height. Reaching higher than any other self-propelled boom lift in the world, this new model opens the door to much larger applications, which means new business opportunities for our customers,” says Sebastian.

The strategically located EMEAR Distribution Centre in the Netherlands

Serving customers worldwide with locations in Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the Middle East, the United Kingdom and United States of America, Terex AWP is organized in three distinct geographical areas covering North America - Europe, The Middle East, Asia and Russia (EMEAR) - and the Asia Pacific region.

Providing centralized logistics and distribution services to customers Europe-wide since 2009, the Terex AWP European Distribution Centre (EDC) is located in the Borchwerf II Business Area in Roosendaal, the Netherlands. “Until 2008, our company had operations throughout Europe with stock and parts warehouses in every country,” says Sebastian. “However, adapting to recent economic challenges, we chose to centralize stock and parts warehousing by creating a single, strategically located distribution facility.”

As fleet requirements continue to evolve, Terex AWP continues to invest in long-term relationships backed by the support of a long-term investment program. “Due to high customer demand, the ability to deliver promptly is paramount for customers in the EMEAR region,” explains Sebastian. “A big part of our machines is produced in our North America facilities and take about six weeks at sea before we receive them at the EDC and can be inspected, amended, option fitted and delivered to our EMEAR customers. Consequently, we have machine stock available at the Borchwerf II Business Park to serve our urgent customer needs.” Providing a convenient, geographically central location for companies looking to set-up business in Western-Europe, the Borchwerf II Business Park also combines the benefits of several centuries’ experience in cross-border logistics procedures.

Daily machine and spare parts shipments across EMEAR

After being manufactured at the Terex AWP facilities in China and North America, aerial work platforms, including optional components and spare parts destined for the EMEAR region are primarily shipped by container to the ports of Rotterdam or Antwerp. They are then unloaded and transferred onto barges that  transport the equipment to the port of Moerdijk that provides direct access to the main A17 motorway. From Moerdijk the machines, components and parts are delivered by truck to the Terex AWP Borchwerf II Business Park EDC on a daily basis. Slab scissors manufactured in Coventry in the UK, and telehandlers as well as articulated booms produced in Umbertide in Italy, with some optional components, are transported by truck for direct delivery to the customers or Terex AWP EDC.

Incoming machine parts and optional components are first checked-in, then stored and assembled according to order. The machines are then inspected to meet customer requirements, including the installation of the designated country-specific power systems, machine lights and tyres. As soon as the machines are calibrated and have passed inspection, they are finally shipped out to their corresponding destinations across Europe.

A sustainable business relationship with CEVA

Contracted by Terex AWP, CEVA Logistics delivers freight management and logistics services.  “Using global freight management systems, CEVA provides a highly efficient freight management and logistics service that enables our team to focus on developing and manufacturing the high quality products and parts our customers’ need, which is the core of our company’s activity,’ explains Sebastian.

As part of its sustainable relationship with CEVA, Terex AWP benefits from the feedback provided by its Centre for Excellence in Customer Relations - a structure that centralizes all questions and requirements regarding the expertise of Terex AWP machines to help maintain high customer service standards in Western Europe.

“Daily logistics operations at our Centre of Excellence at the Borchwerf II Business Park are run by CEVA and 75 CEVA staff members,” says Sebastian. “Terex AWP benefits from the language and technical expertise of a stable and highly skilled workforce. Our relationship with CEVA is based on trust. For Terex AWP customers, this implies all the advantages of working on a one face - one organization basis, which makes the entire process much simpler.”

For Raoul Hildebrand, Terex AWP Account Manager at CEVA Logistics in the Netherlands, “Terex AWP is the silent force that enables logistics processes to build up the supply chain for the EMEAR region. Our companies’ philosophies’ match well, and they both focus on lean management and similar cultures. We look forward to continuing our relationship in Borchwerf II Business Park."
